The Wonder of the Pancake Light

Here are some behind the scene photo's for a "Golf Digest Digital" shoot I did in Orlando during the PGA Merchandise Show. This is a round table discussion with 4 of the top Golf Instructors in the world. Butch Harmon, David Leadbetter, Jim Mclean and Hank Haney, hosted by Senior editor at Golf Digest, Peter Morrice.

The set up was in a medium size ballroom at the Rosen Center. We had to lug a lot of stuff to make this work, very small crew, we switched 3 cameras and one locked off bailout camera. Lighting was a challenge at first, the client wanted the back round to fall off to black so we had to hang some Duvateen. I rented a Medium sized Chimera Pancake or China Ball light. I actually had the light, a 1K open face Arri, fit right into the head perfectly. It came with a shroud to control the spill. I used a 20' speed rail to hang it over the table. Hung a couple of 300 Arri's for backlights and a couple of Arri 150's for fill.

The got a great bounce from the warm color of the wood table. Over all it looked great, this was the perfect light for this situation. The crew from www.ko-mar.com was myself as DP/camera, Todd Kolich - camera, Gunner Garrity - camera, Anthony Angrisani -audio, Chris DeMaio TD/Director, Jim Gallagher / producer and John Marvel Head of GD Digital. Look for it soon on www.golfdigest.com.
